General Information:
The O’Brien Fellowship allows journalists to complete an in-depth reporting project on a topic of state, regional, national, or international interest over two academic semesters. Fellows often work from the O’Brien newsroom at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but remote applications are also accepted.
Type: Fully funded.
Duration: Two academic semesters.
Deadline: January 19, 2025.
Benefits:
- $75,000 for nine months, paid to the sponsoring organization or directly to independent journalists.
- Up to $12,000 based on family requirements for relocating allowance to Milwaukee.
- Up to $7,000 for moving allowance to Milwaukee.
- Up to $9,000 for project-related expenses.
- Employee benefits are continued by the fellow’s employer, or Marquette health insurance for independent journalists.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of professional journalism experience.
- Must reside in the United States or its territories.
- Open to staff-employed or independent journalists.
- Must propose a rigorous, multimedia public service journalism project.
